About the event

She was friends with Galileo, she was tortured during trial, and her art sometimes makes you gasp. But she is much more than that. Artemisia Gentileschi (1593-1656) is a remarkable figure in art history. Most of her art focuses on women figures—including Bathsheba, Mary Magdalene, Jael, Lot’s daughters, and Mary, the mother of Jesus—with two of her most stunning paintings focusing on the figures of Judith and Susanna from the Apocrypha. How can a 17th-century female Baroque artist help us see the Bible differently? That’s the focus of our time together.
