SECOND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
WELCOME TO
Thank you for thinking about a community that we see as so special.
What does it mean to be at Second?
Maybe it has to do with service to others including the hungry and homeless.
Maybe it has to do with being a part of a distinctive, even unusual, small community.
Maybe it has to do with our gathering together because we want to grow in our faith, and we know that others here are on that same path.
Maybe it has to do with music led by the Director of the Virginia Symphony Chorus, who also is Director of the Norfolk Street Choir (for unhoused people).
Maybe it has to do with a unique approach to preaching and worship, with distinctive bulletins and with an approach to the Bible that takes it seriously.
Or maybe it—at least initially for some people—is because we have great fellowship hours.
My hope is that people see this as an open community:
that some of us are on the right politically and socially, that some of us are on the left, but that our commitment to Christ is central.
that there is a tone here, that we are serious, but not solemn.
that we are relaxed, but not imprecise.
Second Presbyterian is a great place to think about how your life can be rooted in God and how you can find greater meaning in that life.
We hope you will join us!
With blessings,
Pastor Craig

What time should I arrive?Worship begins at 11. We encourage you to arrive 5-10 minutes early, just to get situated and familiar with the layout of the building.
-
Are small children welcome? Is childcare available?Oh, absolutely. We have special bulletins (and activity bags) for children. We have a “crying room” in the back of the sanctuary, for those moments when you might want privacy but still want to see the service. We have a special children’s time called the “Time of Discovery” during the worship service. We also have childcare available for younger children during worship.
-
Is the church accessible?Yes, there is a ramp on the “playground side” of the church. That makes for easy access and then, once inside the church, everything related to worship and fellowship are on the first floor. The restrooms are accessible as well.
-
How big is the church?Expect 90-110 people. People frequently say that we are a small but mighty congregation.
