discipleship ministries at Second

FELLOWSHIP HOUR AT SECOND

Each Sunday after worship we gather in a time of fellowship!

Some Christians jokingly refer to potluck dinners or fellowship hour as a third sacrament. To be fair to them, eating is discussed throughout the Bible. Peter Leithart says that Jesus “came teaching about the feast of the kingdom, and He came feasting in the kingdom. Jesus did not go around merely talking about eating and drinking; he went around eating and drinking. A lot.” Through food, he enacted grace, community, hope, and salvation.

As Christians we grow not just through worship and through study, but also through the kinds of sidebar conversations that happen during fellowship.

So please consider joining us in fellowship, or providing some food for fellowship!

We are appreciative for both.

flowers for worship

Flowers are an important part of our hospitality ministry, because they are welcoming and appealing. Beautiful flowers are a wonderful way for our members and visitors to celebrate God’s glory. We need one individual or family to donate flowers for worship each Sunday. Flowers do not need to be expensive, elaborate, or store-bought–they can be from your own garden if you wish! Please sign up no later than the Thursday before the Sunday you wish to bring flowers. If anyone wishes assistance with acquiring flowers or delivering them to church, please contact Alice Allen-Grimes. Thank you for assisting in this simple yet very important ministry!

Greeting for Worship

Greeters are an important part of our hospitality ministry at the church because they ensure all who walk through our doors feel welcomed and comfortable with worship. They accomplish this by greeting people and by giving everyone a worship bulletin. We need to have two greeters each Sunday, one at each hallway leading into the sanctuary. Thank you for assisting in this simple, yet very important, ministry!
